CSU Summer Series sees another Holland win

Jonathon Holland continued his good form with another win in the WaggaRoos Summer Series of Orienteering conducted at Charles Sturt University last Thursday.

Most participants opted for the 30 minute time limit to find the answers to questions about features on campus. With a list of 41 questions worth between 5 and 20 points the challenge was to decide the most effective way them pick off to maximise points.

In the open across the extensive grounds where it was more like bush orienteering, most participants were comfortable. However, between the buildings it became more confusing particularly where some answers were on the upper levels.

Starting from the flagpole on top of the hill, Debbie Davey worked her way systematically south and amassed a very good 240 points. Jonathon Holland decided to head down the eastern side through the grounds and then came zigzagging back through the campus buildings. It worked for, despite a penalty for being 18 seconds overtime, he scored 250 points to eclipse Debbie’s time by 10 points. For the third time this season Jonathon also won handicap honours.

The rest of the field was well back with Bob Moore (170) finishing just ahead of Catherine Holland (140) and Pauline and Preston Moore (85).

Alex Davey was the only participant in the 45 minute course and managed to find answers to 38 of the 41 questions, accumulating 330 points.

Although not competing, Wes Campbell maintained his position at the head of the Waggaroos OY pointscore, although Jonathan Holland has narrowed the gap to just 22 points.  See the full table here
